A Review of Experimental Solubilities and a General Correlation between the Temperature-Dependent Solubility and Solute and Solvent Molar Masses for Binary n-Alkane Mixtures

The solubility of a ”heavy” alkane (solute) in ”light” (solvent) is generally temperature dependent. Moreover, it determined by the molar masses solute and solvent. In current paper, published data for binary normal-alkane mixtures reviewed (solid-liquid equilibrium). A total 43 unique solute-solvent data-sets, obtained from 24 experimental studies, are collected presented systematic manner. Based on thermodynamic considerations data, demonstrated that there log-linear relationship between dilute range. Linear regression employed to 1) obtain data-set-specific solubility-temperature best-fit parameters 2) general correlation solvent temperature. Finally, developed carries predictive power even multi-component utilizing average masses.
